today's my 2nd day of a week attachment in Haematology department which is mainly based at the health lab where they haf their outpatient clinic and also bone marrow transplant unit as the ward for the department. felt welcoming in the department as everyone acknowledge our existence there in the department. it was an interesting experience for me so far, as i get to see sth tat i've never seen before and learn sth other than the normal rotation we have. Haematology = study of blood.
for yest, i followed a registrar who was in charged of bone marrow biopsy. so i get to observe and assist in a few bone marrow biopsy taken from the patients both aspiration and trephine where a piece of bone taken out from the pelvic bone and also aspiration from the sternum. the patients didnt seem to be in too much pain as i expected...guess the LA was really working for them and i get to feel the bone using the needle and "drill" the bone with the equipment.
and this morning i spent the whole morning in the lab seeing how the blood tests being done and also do some of them by myself. they got a funky machine just last year which help to do most of the haematology tests by itself which is totally automated and efficient. it also make a blood film by itself. how cool is tat?
tmr will be hard for me as i have to be there in the ward at 645am which means i have to wake up at 530am n get ready to walk to hospital. so early...even before the champion league matches started. but i get the afternoon off after tat. so guess it's not too bad.
I'm enjoying haematology!! got a lil surprise yest!! :D thx!
